Last weekend we got a chance to look at some of the young talent in the Metroplex at our Hoop Or Treat event. I was surprised by the depth of talent of players from 3rd-8th grade. I must also give a huge shot out to the programs in attendance. They all seem to be doing a phenomenal job developing their players. I'm going to recap some of the top players I saw in action.
2024 Southern Assault 6'4 F Taishan Livingston- Livingston was one of the better long term prospects in the gym. The long and rangy 4 man was active around the rim rebounding, blocking shots and finishing around the rim. He is definitely one to track moving forward.
2024 Texas Tarheels 6'1 G Landon Brown- Landon plays with the skill and feel of a much older prospect. He is always in control and plays at his own pace. He made shots, made good reads and looked the part of one of the top guard prospects in the city.
2024 ICE Superboys 5'10 G Denim Collins- Denim made big play after big play all day on Saturday for his squad. Whenever they needed a basket Denim got it. He was in attack mode on both sides of the ball.
2024 ICE Superboys- 6'3 wing Da'Rayvion Mikel Starling- The long wing made three pointers, finished above the rim and played excellent defense. I really like his long term potential as a prospect.
2026 Hoops For Purpose 5'8 wing Landen Higgs- Landen was the utility guy for his HFP team. He rebounded, handled the ball, scored and did whatever his team needed him to do. Young player is all arms and legs, he has a chance to be very good in the future.
2026 Hoops For Purpose 5'2 G Ty Buis- Ty was getting busy on Saturday in the game against 3d. He scored from everywhere and played hard the entire game. He plays with energy and efficiency!
2027 3d Academy 5'4 G Beckham Black- I know it's early, too early but Beckham was one of the top 3 prospects in the event regardless of grade. The young PG makes plays that makes you shake your head and wonder if you're truly watching a 5th grader. EVERYTHING you're looking for in a PG the young prospect already has in his game. Most importantly, he hates to lose. NATIONAL level talent on this one. Great genes as his older brother is one of the best prospects in football and basketball in the 2022 class and his dad is in the Baylor basketball Hall of Fame.
2026 TX Hoyas 5'9 G Carter Chism- Carter is a big time lead guard. Plays with excellent pace and IQ at the PG position. He got to his spots whenever he wanted and consistently made plays for himself and others. Look for his to be among the best in the state once he gets to HS just like his older brother 2023 PG Payton Chism.
2025 3d Academy 6'2 F Nate Coyle- Nate was big in a win over Southern Assault. He rebounded, made three's and scored around the rim. Versatile player!
2025 3d Academy 5'0 G Jett McCasland- Jett may have a last name that sounds familiar but his game speaks for itself. The sharpshooting guard can dial it up from three and he plays with a high basketball IQ. What really stuck out was his toughness and ability to shoot the three ball. He made at least 12 triples over the course of three games and was the first person on the floor for loose balls.
2025 3d Academy 6'0 F TJ Hobbs- Hobbs is a DOG, that is a compliment! Wherever the ball was he was right there offensively and defensively. Plays with an ELITE motor and grabs every rebound.
2025 3d Academy 5'11 G Trent Bowers- Watching Trent play you had to rub your eyes wondering if you were watching a combination of Baylor Hebb and Logan McLaughlin. This kid is skilled, tough and he makes shots. One to track!
2025 Southern Assault 6'0 G Silas Rodriguez- Silas is a player. He did a little bit of everything for his Southern Assault squad. He scored from every level and played with great fundamentals and footwork.
2026 TX Dynasty 5'1 G Ammasia Payian- The definition of feel on this kid. He plays one play ahead and his handle and passing ability are very advanced.
2024 TX Dynasty 5'11 G Jazz Henderson- Jazz plays with big time confidence and can really get to the basket off the bounce. He played huge in a win Saturday night.
