Coppell 2022 6'7 wing Ryan Agarwal has become a hot commodity on the recruiting trail over the last month. I sit down and talk with him about his recruitment, development and what he's looking for in a program.
TheTB5Reports: "What schools do you have offers from currently and are you looking to take any visits when the NCAA deems it safe?"
Ryan: "I have offers from Creighton, Rice, Denver, SMU and UTA. I have good relationships with all those coaches and I've been continuing to try and build on it." "I have been trying to go on visits and as soon as all this virus stuff clears up thats definitely on my to-do list."
TheTB5Reports: "You’ve come a long way in a short time as a player, how did you get to this point where you're a highly recruited prospect?"
Ryan: "I think my main jumps in my career were definitely over the summers. "I went every morning last summer at 5 to start the day with an extra workout with one of my former teammates Tariq who plays in college now." "He helped take me under his wing and pushed me to get better." "I would try to get 3-4 a days in everyday and the next year it showed it worked." "So this year I’m just trying to match that energy and gain on it." "Obviously gyms aren’t available as much as they were but I'm going to make the most of what I can." "Building on that, training with my trainer, strength and conditioning obviously helped." "Lastly, Coach Shawn sent me through the path of being on his B team first and then moving up and I think because of that I gained the confidence to shoot without looking over my shoulder."
TheTB5Reports: "What are you looking for in a college program?"
Ryan: "In college I’m very open minded to what I’m looking for." I wouldn’t shut down any school right now so early in the process." "Some of the things I'm looking for are a good relationship with the coaches especially with the head coach." "Also I want a school where I will play and develops their players." "Lastly on the side other than basketball, I’m looking for a good education and campus life."
Ryan is widely known as one of the top three point marksmen in the country. His accuracy, quick release and 6'7 size make him a major target for any programs looking to add a knockdown shooter in the 2022 class. While Ryan definitely needs to add muscle to his frame, he's made great strides with his body over the last year. I expect him to steadily rise up the rankings and be a major target for collegiate programs moving forward.
