With the spring grassroots season quickly approaching I wanted to start a series titled, "Underrated and Undervalued."
This series will cover some of the better prospects in Texas in the 2022 class that we don't hear much about. We talk about the 2021 class and some of the opportunities they missed due to COVID-19 and not being able to be seen live by college coaches, the 2022 class is possibly going into their second summer without being seen live.
2022 Mansfield Timberview 6'2 G Jared Washington
Washington is a strong, tough and athletic guard that can see his stock soar with a few high level performances early in the spring. He has a tight handle, shoots the ball out to three point line, rebounds and will finish above the rim in traffic. Those are a lot of quality attributes for a two guard.
Consistency is key and Washington has been consistent this year for the Timberwolves. They are seeking another State Championship and he will be leaned on heavily by coach Gregory and his teammates to get back to San Antonio this year.
2022 McKinney 6'5 F Alex Anamekwe
Anamekwe is a SUPER SLEEPER in my opinion. The versatile combo forward effects the game in every way possible. Defensively he can guard 1-4 at the collegiate level because of his strength, quickness, length, athleticism and constant motor. Offensively, Anamekwe routinely knocks down the open three, is an underrated passer and will finish everything around the rim over and through defenders.
The 2022 class is special in Texas, Anamekwe is right in the mix as one of the top players in the state in this class. He is a huge reason McKinney is one of the top 6A teams in the state. Anamekwe simply makes winning plays. Everything he does on the floor is to help his team win.
